Flooring Installation in League City and the Houston Area
We've installed a lot of flooring across League City, Friendswood, Webster, Clear Lake, and the rest of the Houston area over the last ten years. The single most common complaint homeowners have about flooring they didn't get through us is some version of the same problem: it looked great the day it was installed, and within a year or two it was buckling, shifting, or showing gaps at the seams. Usually that comes back to the subfloor β either it wasn't leveled properly, or the wrong product was installed on a slab that has moisture coming through it.
South Texas has some flooring challenges that other parts of the country don't. High humidity, concrete slabs that sit directly on the ground, and temperature swings between our mild winters and brutal summers all affect how flooring performs over time. We take those conditions seriously before we ever open a box of material.
Luxury Vinyl Plank β What Most People Are Choosing
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is by far the most common flooring we're installing right now, and honestly it makes a lot of sense for Houston homes. It's waterproof, it's durable, it handles humidity better than wood or laminate, it's comfortable underfoot, and it looks good. The quality range is wide β there's cheap LVP that sounds hollow and scratches easily, and there's thick, well-made product that looks almost identical to hardwood and will hold up for 20 years. We help homeowners choose something in the right range for how they actually live in the house, not just whatever hits a price point.
LVP is also a good choice for homes with dogs and kids, which describes most of the houses we work in. It cleans easily, it doesn't stain, and it doesn't care about water the way hardwood does. If you've been putting off flooring because you were worried about maintenance, LVP is worth a real look.
Tile
We install tile in bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, and laundry rooms. Tile is still the best choice for wet areas β nothing beats it for durability in a bathroom or around a kitchen sink. We do both floor tile and shower/tub surround tile. The layout and the grout lines matter a lot with tile β a well-laid tile floor looks completely different from a rushed one, and we take our time getting the pattern right before we start setting.
Larger format tiles (24x24 and up) are popular right now, and they look great but they require a flatter subfloor than smaller tiles. If your subfloor has any high spots or dips, we find them before we set a single tile.
Laminate
Laminate is the most affordable option and it looks better than it used to. The main downside in Houston is moisture β laminate is not fully waterproof the way LVP is, so we generally don't recommend it in bathrooms or laundry rooms, or in any space where there's a real risk of water on the floor. In bedrooms, hallways, and living areas where it stays dry, laminate is a legitimate option and the better products hold up well.
Subfloor Prep β The Part That Actually Matters
Before any flooring goes down, the subfloor has to be right. We check the entire subfloor for high spots and low spots, squeaky areas, damaged sections, and moisture. On a concrete slab, we do a moisture test β if moisture is migrating up through the slab (which happens more than people expect in South Texas), we need to address it before installing anything, or the floor will fail. On a wood subfloor, we check for soft spots, squeaks, and any areas that need to be replaced or screwed down more securely. This prep step is what most low-bid installers rush through or skip entirely.
Transitions and Trim
The last thing we do is also the thing that separates a good installation from a sloppy one: transitions and trim. Where flooring meets a different surface β a doorway, a step down, a tile-to-wood transition β the transition strip has to be tight and level. Loose or crooked transitions are an eyesore and a trip hazard. We also reinstall or replace quarter-round and baseboards to finish the edges cleanly. The floor should look complete when we walk out, not like a work in progress. If your project involves a garage, utility area, or commercial space with a bare concrete slab that needs a durable coated surface rather than traditional flooring, see our epoxy floor coatings page.
