Drywall Installation

New construction, remodels, room additions, garage conversions β€” we hang, tape, mud, and finish drywall so it's actually ready for paint. The taping and mudding is where most jobs go wrong.

Drywall Installation β€” League City & Greater Houston

Drywall Installation in League City and the Houston Area

We install drywall for new construction projects, additions, remodels, garage conversions, and any project where you need walls built from scratch. It's a job that looks straightforward β€” hang the boards, tape the seams, mud it, sand it β€” but the finish quality varies enormously based on how carefully the taping and mudding is done. A wall that was rushed through finishing will show every flaw the moment sunlight hits it from the side. A wall that was done right looks flat and clean no matter how the light hits it.

We work with homeowners, contractors, and builders across League City, Pearland, Webster, Clear Lake, and the wider Houston area. Whether it's a single room addition or a full interior rough-in, we bring the same standard to every job. If you have existing drywall with holes, cracks, or water damage rather than a full new installation, see our drywall repair page.

The Process β€” Start to Finish

Before we hang anything, we check the framing. Warped studs, out-of-plumb walls, and framing that's out of square all create problems that show up after the drywall is on. We're not a framing crew, but we'll tell you what needs to be addressed before we start so the finished walls come out right. Nothing's worse than getting to the painting stage and seeing waviness in the walls that comes from hanging drywall over a framing issue nobody caught.

Hanging the boards is where we start. We measure and cut carefully, keep seams centered on studs, stagger the joints for strength, and use the right board thickness for each application. Ceilings and walls get different treatment β€” ceiling drywall needs to be hung tightly to the framing without sag, which means the right lift equipment and the right fastener spacing. We also use moisture-resistant drywall in bathrooms and any area near plumbing β€” regular drywall in a bathroom will fail fast in South Texas humidity.

Then comes the work that determines how the finished wall looks: taping and mudding. Every seam and every fastener gets taped and mudded. We apply multiple coats of joint compound β€” typically three β€” with sanding in between coats. That's the standard for a quality finish. Two coats saves time but leaves the seams visible. Three coats, properly sanded, gives you a flat wall that takes paint evenly. On corners, we use metal corner bead for outside corners (crisp and durable) and paper tape for inside corners (flexible enough to not crack with the slight house movement that happens over time in Texas).

Finish Levels

Drywall finish is rated on a scale from Level 0 to Level 5. Level 0 is bare hanging with no taping β€” used in construction areas that won't be seen. Level 5 is a skim coat over the entire surface for a completely smooth finish, used in high-end spaces or wherever the lighting is very direct. Most residential work is Level 4, which means all seams, corners, and fasteners are finished and the surface is ready for paint and typical texture. If you want a smooth wall β€” no texture at all β€” you generally need Level 5, because even a well-finished Level 4 wall will show slight surface irregularities under direct light without texture to hide them. We do all levels and can walk you through which makes sense for your project.

Texture Options

Most homes in the Houston area have textured walls β€” orange peel and knockdown are the most common. We apply both by spray. Skip trowel is a hand-applied texture that gives a more rustic, artisan look. If you want smooth walls β€” popular in modern and contemporary homes β€” we do that too with a final skim coat and careful sanding. We match existing textures in remodel and addition work so the new space doesn't look like a different house than the original.

Popcorn Ceiling Removal

A lot of League City homes built before the early 1990s still have popcorn ceilings. They were everywhere back then. If you want to get rid of yours, we scrape the texture off (after testing for asbestos in older homes β€” required for anything built before 1980, and a precaution worth taking in early 90s homes too), skim coat or re-texture the ceiling smooth, prime, and paint. The result is a clean flat ceiling that makes the rooms look taller and more current.
