Assess the concrete

Before choosing a color or flake blend, look for cracks, contamination, previous coatings and areas where the slab stays damp. The appropriate preparation depends on the condition of the concrete and the coating system. Existing problems should be discussed before a finish is selected.

Ask about surface preparation

Cleaning alone may not be sufficient for every product or floor. Ask what preparation method is proposed, how dust and surrounding areas will be managed, and which repairs are included. A coating manufacturer’s instructions and the installer’s assessment should guide the process.

Plan for access

Move vehicles and stored items out of the work area and ask when people, equipment and vehicles can return. Drying and cure times vary with the product and conditions; follow the specific instructions rather than assuming the floor is ready when it looks dry. Confirm the areas to be coated and any exclusions in the estimate.
